Human Resources Manager

Job Description

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for supporting all aspects of the Human Resources function for a large, high-volume hotel operation. This role partners closely with hotel leadership to foster a positive workplace culture, ensure compliance with company policies and employment laws, and drive talent acquisition, employee relations, engagement, retention, and performance management initiatives. The Human Resources Manager serves as a key resource for managers and associates while helping to ensure the hotel's workforce is aligned with operational and business objectives.

Job Function

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and associates on employee relations matters.
  • Conduct investigations involving policy violations, workplace complaints, harassment allegations, misconduct, and other employee concerns.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers regarding performance management, corrective action, and conflict resolution.
  • Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive employee matters.
  • Promote a culture of fairness, accountability, inclusion, and respect.

Talent Acquisition and Staffing

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment efforts for hourly and salaried positions.
  • Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs and workforce planning strategies.
  • Coordinate job postings, interviews, hiring events, onboarding, and orientation programs.
  • Monitor staffing levels and turnover trends to ensure operational needs are met.
  • Uses traditional and nontraditional resources, such as career fairs, online job fairs, community network events, websites, etc., to identify and attract quality candidates.
  • Develops advertising programs (internal and external) to ensure high visibility with potential candidates.
  • Partners with department manager to determine staffing needs per staffing guidelines.
  • Coordinates internal transfer process, including screening, coordination of interviews with hiring manager, transfer offer letters, etc.
  • Follows up with candidates and hiring managers to obtain feedback regarding recruiting process.
  • Extends offers of employment for both exempt and nonexempt position. Communicates important employment information during delivery of employment offers (e.g., benefits, compensation, non-compete agreements).

Performance Management

  • Support managers in establishing performance expectations and conducting evaluations.
  • Ensure consistency in the administration of disciplinary action and performance improvement processes.
  • Monitor compliance with company performance management programs and procedures.
  • Assist in succession planning and leadership development initiatives.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and personnel files.
  • Support wage and hour compliance, leave administration, unemployment claims, and workers' compensation processes.
  • Conduct audits and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and hotel standards.

Employee Engagement and Culture

  • Plan and coordinate employee recognition programs, engagement activities, and communication initiatives.
  • Support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts throughout the hotel.
  • Assist with associate surveys and action planning initiatives.
  • Promote a positive work environment that supports retention and employee satisfaction.

Training and Development

  • Coordinate orientation and onboarding programs for new associates.
  • Facilitate or support training on company policies, leadership development, compliance topics, and guest service standards.
  • Identify training opportunities to enhance employee performance and career growth.
  • Maintain training records and monitor completion requirements.

HR Operations

  • Assist with benefits enrollment, leave administration, and employee inquiries.
  • Maintain HRIS and personnel records with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Prepare reports related to turnover, staffing, recruiting, attendance, and other workforce metrics.
  • Support payroll-related processes and coordinate with corporate HR and payroll teams as needed.
  • Participate in hotel leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and working knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, EEO, OSHA, ADA as well as other compliance related areas.
  • Monitor worker’s compensation claims.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of prior recruiting/human resources experience; experience in hotel or hospitality business preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resources. Will consider equivalency of education and experience.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment and integrity.
  • Effective conflict resolution and investigative skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to influence leaders and drive accountability.
  • Ability to analyze workforce data and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.

Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced hospitality environment operating 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
  • Frequent interaction with managers, associates, guests, and corporate representatives.
  • Ability to move throughout a large hotel property and attend meetings in various locations.
