PRINCIPLE ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and oversee the end-to-end bi-weekly payroll process for all employees including full-time, part-time, and tipped employees.
- Work with department leaders to ensure proper tracking of employee hours, clockings, PTO, and proper use of secondary job codes in the timekeeping system.
- Supervise and lead the payroll team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure the team operates efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and standards.
- Set up local taxes, wage garnishments, and other deductions.
- Audit occupational tax filings prepared by ProLiant.
- Address and resolve any payroll discrepancies or issues promptly and effectively, and answer employee questions regarding their pay, deductions, or tax withholdings.
- Audit contract labor invoicing to ensure accuracy before being submitted to A/P for processing.
- Prepare payroll reports and provide documentation for audits and internal reviews.
- Ensure seamless integration and accuracy of payroll data with the accounting system.
- Active participant in month-end closing process, preparing payroll accrual journal entries, among other assigned payroll journal entries.
- Collaborate with HR and finance departments to ensure payroll data is accurate and aligned with company policies and financial records.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve payroll processes and systems for greater efficiency and accuracy.
- System Upgrades: Lead system upgrade projects, ensuring seamless transitions and minimal disruption to operations.
- Other related duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Management Experience needed: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. 8+ years of payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Industry-specific knowledge, skills & abilities needed: Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels. Proficiency in handling tips and variable compensation for employees, particularly in a restaurant setting.
Functional/Job-Related knowledge, skills & abilities needed: Proficiency Microsoft Suite. Experience with Oracle’s NetSuite, ProLiant, and Unifocus is a plus. Attention to detail.
Interpersonal knowledge, skills & abilities needed: Must be able to work as a team with other departments and divisions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Character: Self-driven. High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive payroll information.
Specific knowledge/experience needed: Working knowledge of databases and accounting information systems.
